Chennaiyin beat Pune to win the first season victory

Chennaiyin FC champions defeated for the first time this season with a convincing 4-2 victory against FC Pune City in their Indian League Super League clash on Tuesday. Ashique Kuruniyan's early goal in the ninth minute gave Pune the lead, but a strong second half from Chennaiyin allowed John Gregory's men to seal three points.

Mailson Alves equalized with a header in the 53rd minute and Gregory Nelson completed the return two minutes later. Inigo Calderon and Thoi Singh helped the visitors to increase the lead and Jonathan Vila's only goal was a consolation.

Brazilian striker Marcelinho took his command after a dangerous match in Germanpreet Singh, as Pune finished the game with 10 men to compose the crashes of Pradyum Reddy coach as another striker, Diego Carlos de Oliveira, continues to be suspended for another red card against Goa.

A trial run by defense champions was punished by Pune City less than ten minutes in the fight. A wonderful diagonal ball from Robin Singh allowed Kuruniyan to compete in Inigo Calderon on the left and defeat Karanjit Singh from a narrow corner in the box.

John Gregory's men had the lion's share of the ball, but they struggled to create clear chances with that. Martin Diaz plagued Anirudh Thapa out of the box and the young midfielder chose Mailson Alves to be far away from the free kick that emerged. Skipper's looping head hit the back of the net, leaving the goalkeeper without any chance. The match turned to his head as the champions took the lead two minutes later.

The scorer turned to the provider as Mailson's long ball found Nelson in his right hand that ran behind Lalchhuanmawia Fanai before breaking the ball over a stunning Kamaljit Singh. Chennaiyin doubled the lead in the 69th minute of the Thapa court. Pune's defense failed to deal with an impressive goal coming up the middle, but Raphael Augusto managed to squeeze a goal past the visitors' keeper, but the alert Calderon player managed to shrug them off and fired a low shot past the keeper to give his team the lead.

Visitors grew with confidence as the second half progressed and scored their fourth goal three minutes later. Augee captured a great ball across the face of the goal for Jay, whose shot was kept outside the goalie. The recovery fell perfectly for Thoi who was not wrong with the handshake distance.

Augusto almost wrote his name in the score with a shot in the goal but the spinning effort full of Brazilian jersey hit the cross. Pune took a consolation goal in the 90th minute when Jonathan Vila scored the highest in the nearby post in the head in Marcelinho's well-kicked kick.

Marcelinho, however, jumped to a dangerous deal to steal the land from Germanpreet Singh with just seconds left on the watch and the forward was punished with a straight red card. Pune is at the bottom of the championship with just two points out of six races, while Chennaiyin moved up eighth with four points from seven races.
