Cristiano Ronaldo will not face a rape tax in Las Vegas

Portuguese football star Cristiano Ronaldo will not face charges in Las Vegas in connection with a 10-year sexual assault claim because the case can not be proven beyond reasonable doubt, prosecutors said on Monday.

Ronaldo, widely regarded as one of the biggest footballers of all time and playing for the Italian club Juventus, has claimed he is innocent.

Kathryn Mayorga filed a civil lawsuit in September 2018 at the Nevada State Court accusing the athlete of raping her at a hotel penthouse suite in Las Vegas in 2009 and then paying $ 375,000.

A woman named Las Vegas police on June 13, 2009 to report she was sexually assaulted and the police went to the hospital for examination, County County Clark County Attorney's Office said in a statement Monday. He refused to identify the person who said he was attacking her.

The statement did not recognize the woman, but Mayorga's civil claim reflects the allegation described by the prosecutors.

Mayorga and Ronaldo arrived in civilian settlement in 2010, and law enforcement authorities did not hear it again until August 28, 2018 when they asked the police to reopen the investigation. He said that Ronaldo was the person who had sexually attacked him, prosecutors said.

The Las Vegas police on July 8 asked the District Attorney's Office in County Clark County to prosecute the lawsuit.

"Based on a review of the information presented at the moment, allegations of sexual assault against Cristiano Ronaldo can not prove beyond reasonable doubt," the Prosecutor's Office said in a statement Monday.

Ronaldo's attorney, Peter Christineen, did not send calls. Lawyers for Mayorga could not reach for comment.

The Las Vegas police said in January that they had formally asked the Italian authorities to take DNA samples from Ronaldo.

The police did not respond immediately on Monday to emails asking if they ever received the DNA.

The civil lawsuit, in which Mayorga sought compensation exceeding $ 200,000, was transferred to the federal court.

Mayorga and Ronaldo, according to the costume, met in Las Vegas at a nightclub before joining a group of people going to your reception to see the Las Vegas Strip.
