Facebook access is affected by undefined problems

WASHINGTON: Facebook said on Tuesday that users were having difficulty accessing the social network and other applications, such as Instagram, but they did not explain the cause of the holiday.

It was the second time in the last two weeks when technical issues seemed to affect Facebook access.

The independent Downdetector watchdog showed a map indicating interruptions affecting most parts of the world, especially in North America, Europe and Asia. The hashtag #FacebookDown was popular on Twitter.

"We know that some people have a problem accessing the Facebook application family. We are trying to resolve the problem as soon as possible," said Facebook in a Twitter publication at 1535 GMT.

Facebook did not give any reason for the problems or details.

Facebook, which exploits the Instagram photo sharing platform and WhatsApp and Messenger apps, has been lobbying in the past few weeks to handle a misinformation campaign and hire consultancy services aimed at damaging the company.

Facebook has over 2.2 billion active users worldwide.
