Good Samaritan puzzled under a subway train to save 5-year-old girl

The girl survived the incident, which happened at Kingsbridge Road in the Bronx at around 8am. At least two commuters fled the tracks to help her pull her to safety.

Footage shot from the platform shows two men down the tracks as the girl crawls out of the train. "He told me, 'What happened to my dad? "" One of the men, named Jairo Torres, told CNN 's WCBS affiliate. "Then I said, 'Don't look at your dad, come to me. Come on like a puppy. "

The video shows Torres lifting the girl onto the platform and others on the platform comforting her.

Police said Fernando Balbuena-Flores was pronounced dead at the scene. His daughter suffered scratches and injuries but was not injured, police said.

"My baby girl is in perfect shape thanks to God and the angels who protect her," the girl's mother Niurka Caraballo told WCBS.

Authorities have been informed by witnesses that the man appeared to be deliberately jumping on the subway, according to a law enforcement source who added that the incident is still under investigation.

"The man who saw it coming in had a little girl in his wrists and in his arms." The next thing I know, he and her jump are gone, "Jennifer Hub told WCBS.

The Metropolitan Transport Authority issued a statement mourning the death of the man.

"This is a tragedy and our thoughts are with family members as well as with our organization – this is a traumatic event for all involved," said an MTA spokesman.
