Spirited FC Pune City Realizes 2-0 Goals on Goa

FC Pune City gave a strong look to win a 2-0 win over FC Goa in a clash of the Hero Indian Super League in Pune on Tuesday.

A huge striker from Marcelinho in the 74th minute and a late penalty from Marko Stankovic (90 + 4s) split the two sides as Pune kept consecutively clean sheets.

With only one point from three previous games, the FC Goa matches after the international break in November continued and are in fourth place with 17 points.

Meanwhile, Pune climbed to seventh place with the second consecutive victory, and most importantly, they played 2-4 in Goa when the temporary coach Pradyum Reddy had just taken responsibility.

Goa dominated the early stages of the game, as Pune dropped willingly and reached for quick gauges. Hugo Boumous started a good move in the 12th minute as he chose to play Seriton Fernandes on the right. The full return returned favor with a cross in the center, but Boumous, who took the end, sent his effort wide.

Pune had a great opportunity to take the lead in the 17th minute when Iain Hume's big crossing over the top for Marcelinho caught the defense of Goa. Seriton returned and cut the ball from the Brazilian with one last hit.

With the fight ending up being an end-to-end affair, Goa is again threatened in the 22nd minute. Edu Bedia's lob allowed Brandon Fernandes to win his box and win a good draw by Kamaljit Singh. With three minutes left for the first half, Mandar Rao Dessai was disappointed to the left and found Ferran Corominas in the center of the box and the coach put Edu's ball to send a hard shot that hit line.

Goa pulled the strings again after the break, but Pune had no plans to sit back, despite the Goa's sovereignty. At the 55th minute Ashique Kuruniyan dashed in the direction of the line and put a good cross for Nim Dorjee Tamang, whose head of the nearby team was removed from Mohammad Nawaz.

Ahmed Jahouh took himself to get Pune's defense from the equation with a turbulent strike outside the box in the 70th minute, but Kamaljit produced a great save for the ball's edge off.

A minute later, Mourtada Fall's failure to clear the ball allowed Marcelinho to hit the box at the other end, but the Brazilian shot was extremely right from Nawaz.

The Brazilian worked his magic to give Pune the lead in the 74th minute. The passage of Sarthak Golui found Marcelinho in the box outside the box and the latter released a beautiful convex strike that kissed the back of the net.

Jahouh struck the position with a similar great effort at the other end two minutes later, as Goa sought an equalizer.

Although Goa threw the attack forward, Pune kept them well and won a penalty late when Markos Stankovic was detained by Mohammed Ali. The average went up and turned 12 meters to seal a tough battle for Pune City.
