Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju today marked the 15th Airtel Delhi Half Marathon from Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium. After a countdown, Rijiju fired a pistol into the air to start the run.
According to the organizers, the number of entries for all categories has increased for the 15th edition of the Delhi Half Half Marathon, ie 40,633 participants.
The Grand Delhi Run has registered extraordinary 16,962 runners, with the half marathon up 11% with 13,155 participants. The 10km record led 77% to 8,553. The senior official received 1430 entries, and the champions with disabilities will have 573 inspirational individuals who defy any chance of completing the distance.
The IAAF Gold Label race has a cash prize of $ 275,000.
This year the Half Half Marathon is supported by the New Delhi City Council (NDMC), which will provide its know-how to ensure efficient management of all waste along the way. Also, for the first time, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has been linked to the event to provide special metro services.
Delhi police had issued a traffic advisory in front of the Delhi half marathon on Sunday, officials said.
All tracks, except the 10km, will be marked by the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium and will also end there. The 10km route will start at Jai Singh Road and end at JLN Stadium, according to officials.
