The safest countries in the world to visit in 2020


(CNN) – For those planning a holiday next year and wondering which countries are the safest, a risk map published by a travel insurance organization can help.
SOS International, a travel insurance provider, has released its annual travel risk map for next year.
Based on medical and travel safety risks – including infectious diseases and civil violence the color coordinated map has five categories, ranging from "insignificant" to "extreme" risk.

In its forecasts for 2020, the safest countries to travel concentrate more heavily on the northern hemisphere.

These are Denmark, Finland, Greenland, Iceland, Norway, Slovenia,

The most dangerous areas are scattered around the world and include Afghanistan, the Central African Republic (CAR), Somalia and Syria.

Some countries do not fall into one category and therefore receive a mixed rating.

Mexico and Colombia are both examples of countries with mixed ratings – some regions in both countries are medium risk, while others are high risk.

An International SOS spokesman told CNN that the map was designed around its customers.

They added: "It is obvious that it reflects the risks of the site as a whole, but we advise consumers to do as much research as possible on their destinations."

The United Kingdom, the US, Canada, Australia, China and much of Europe are listed as low risk.

Much of Africa is considered medium and high risk.
